What We Do — MEHER

What we do

Five thematic areas.
One integrated approach.

Programmes are designed around the realities, strengths and aspirations of the communities we serve — and delivered with the institutions accountable to them.

Health & WaSH Education Human Rights & Gender Relief & Infrastructure Climate Change
01 — Health & WaSH

Clean water first. Then everything else gets easier.

Waterborne disease is the most common health burden in the districts where we work. MEHER installs and restores water infrastructure, trains local caretakers to maintain it, and pairs it with hygiene promotion and basic health services.

02 — Education

Learning that reaches children schools miss.

Non-formal centres bring out-of-school children — especially girls — back into learning, while skills training gives young people a route to income close to home.

03 — Human Rights & Gender

Rights are defended locally or not at all.

MEHER works with women's groups, religious leaders, police, journalists and district administration to change what is accepted — and to make existing legal protection usable by families who need it.

Our guiding purpose

04 — Relief & Infrastructure

First on the road when the water rises.

MEHER has responded to every major flood in the region since 2010. Because our staff live in these districts, distribution starts within days and beneficiary lists are verified with village committees.

05 — Climate Change

The floods are no longer exceptional.

Jaffarabad and Nasirabad now face longer heat, harder rain and repeated inundation of the same villages. MEHER works with communities on the measures that reduce loss before the next season — protective works, early warning, water security and livelihoods that survive a bad year.
